Benefits of Beeswax candles: They produce negative ions when burned, and those ions help to neutralize pollutants in the air. This helps eliminate dust, odors, and mold in the atmosphere, easing allergy and asthma symptoms and improving breathing for anyone nearby.
You might ask, “How can I burn something so beautiful?” but don’t worry! The wonderful thing about beeswax is that it burns down the center of the candle so while it burns, you can still enjoy the beautiful design as the candle glows. Beeswax is also slow burning so each of our beeswax candles has a long burn time!
Burning a Beeswax Candle: A beeswax candle can bring many hours of enjoyment if cared for properly.
Trim wick – If not already, trim the wick to ¼ inch.
Candle burning– Burn the candle for at least one hour but no more than 4 hours at a time.
Extinguishing – At the four-hour mark, dip the lit wick in the wax and then stand back up. (Use a toothpick or something similar). This prevents wick smoking.
Hug your candle – Occasionally, it is necessary to gently press the edges of the candle towards the center of the candle to ensure all the beeswax burns properly. Some people like the tunneling on the sides and do not hug their candles.
Trim the wick – if needed, while the candle is still hot to prevent it breaking when cool.
Thin pillar walls – if the candle does drip or melt through its side, extinguish the candle, and let it harden before relighting it.
Relight – When the beeswax is hardened, relight the candle. Best way to relight a beeswax candle is to hold the flame to the base of the wick for 5 to 10 seconds. This will ensure all of the hardened beeswax in the wick is melted. This allows the wick to pull newly melted beeswax from the candle and burn properly. Best to use a lighter instead of a match.
The wick won’t say lit – it may be that the flame you’re using to light the wick isn’t large enough. Because the wick for a beeswax candle is thicker than most other candles, a large flame is needed to melt the wax in and directly around the base of the wick in order to get the wax flow started. The other possible problem could be that the wick has gotten too short. In this case, the solution is to expose the fresh wick by melting the wax around the wick and pouring it off or warming the wick and gently digging wax out from around the wick. Once the fresh wick is exposed, be sure to burn the candle for an hour per inch in diameter to get it back in balance.
Use a candle holder or plate – This will help catch any spilled wax and protect surfaces from possible spills or heat damage. Beeswax candles burn hotter than other candles. Do not use a hurricane container as the beeswax candle needs air flow.
Keep the wax pool clean – do not allow wick clippings or matches to fall in the wax as it will clog the wick and prevent a good burn.
Candle frosting – because these are pure beeswax candles, they will frost. Just rub them gently with your fingers to remove the frost or you can leave it. It does not impact the candle burning in any way.
Be safe – keep children away from the candle and do not leave the candle unattended.
